Application Dark Mode
I wanted to suggest adding a Dark Mode toggle. Right now the all‑white interface works great out in bright sun, but when you’re under canopy cover or on overcast days (or even just testing forms inside), the glare makes field‑testing a bit irritating.
Why:
Form Testing: Dark backgrounds make form fields pop and cut down on screen glare when you’re in shaded or low‑light outdoor spots.
User Comfort: Some folks simply prefer a low‑contrast interface, even during daytime use.
Modern Expectation: Lots of tools offer theming these days – it’s a small tweak that can go a long way.
Proposal:
Add a “Theme” switch in Settings (Light / Dark).
Store the preference locally so it sticks between sessions.
(Optionally) Fall back to the device’s theme if no choice has been made.
Totally understand if this doesn’t fit the current roadmap, but it could make the app more flexible for those of us bouncing between bright trails and shady groves. Thanks for considering!
This issue has been linked to a FeatureOS post: Dark mode :sparkles:
Hi @tmcallahan59 Thomas, thanks for sharing the request and details. How about background map, do you have an alternative for night mode?
Note: there is a similar request on our wishlist portal: https://wishlist.merginmaps.com/p/dark-mode
Thanks for linking the wishlist; still lots of resources to find I see!
I am just using satellite rasters and then the dark OSM backgrounds. Then I open a form and get blinded by the white. If I use a brighter satellite map or the original OSM basemap it's not as much of a contrast.
We could build some automation like if you choose the dark mode in the app, map theme named "dark" (or whatever) gets selected 🤔
Just to make sure I’m on the right page: I’m talking about the attribute forms, which are all pure white right now. If we can tweak them via map themes, that’d be awesome. But if not, a “dark mode” for the forms (dark background, light text) would be super easy on the eyes. I’m totally fine swapping basemaps manually whenever I need to.
