Edited Image Links Not Federating From Lemmy

Open wjs018 opened this issue 1 year ago • 2 comments

Describe the bug

When a lemmy post that points to an image url is edited to point to a different image, it is not updated in mbin.

On which Mbin instance did you find the bug?

kbin.earth (Note: I am not a registered user there, just wanted to check an active mbin instance after I discovered a similar issue with piefed. More info about that at the bottom.)

Which Mbin version was running on the instance?

1.7.3

To Reproduce

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Create a lemmy post pointing to an image url that federates to mbin.
  2. Edit the lemmy post to point to a different image url.
  3. The mbin post will continue to display the original image instead of the new image.

Expected behavior

I would expect that the image is updated to the new image when the lemmy post is update.

Desktop (please complete the following information):

  • OS: Windows
  • Browser Firefox
  • Browser Version 133.0

Additional context

In a lemmy community I moderate, [email protected], we have a bot that creates discussion threads for shows as they air. It links to an image of the poster art for the show when the post is created. Then, if users want to, they can post a screenshot in the thread and I will update the post to point to that screenshot instead. In mbin magazines, this editing of the image doesn't happen. Instead, the post remains displaying the original poster image.

This was also a problem I recently ran across in piefed. There was an issue and discussion about it in the issue here.

Here is a post that can serve as an example:

The reverse of this is also true. Edits made to a URL in a link/image post posted in an Mbin community do not propagate to Lemmy.

Just noting that this isn't specific to image posts. Here's a link post where the same thing occurred:

The original link post was to en.m.wikipedia.org, the mobile Wikipedia subdomain. A commenter complained and the post was edited to en.wikipedia.org on the Lemmy/World side, but on the Mbin/Fedia side, the old mobile link remains.
