An example would be helpful to clear up any uncertainty about your use case. As it is I would suggest taking a look at [interval](https://echarts.apache.org/en/option.html#xAxis.interval) or [minInterval ](https://echarts.apache.org/en/option.html#xAxis.minInterval)/ [maxInterval](https://echarts.apache.org/en/option.html#xAxis.maxInterval)
Still not a very elaborate example. But from that I am now guessing that you are using `axis type 'category'`. [Here](https://echarts.apache.org/examples/en/editor.html?c=line-simple&code=MYewdgzgLgBAJgQygmBeGBtDByATABlwBYBafARjPOwBoZyBWfAXTpwOKrIGZaZduLNnkKkKZBn3IAOIe1FdyvOuQLNmAbgBQWkAAcoAS3BoYAby0wYADwCC1wxABc5y1ZhQAnnoCmL7EYAtj60blaBCNYAkmBQPgBOAG4IADYu5PiZMABUMABs-Dn5hbnEdO4VlVYA9NUw0AhgiPFwMPE-ECApAK5GJiAAZh6GwTCRjjAThmAwgYYpKY4-oE0QYWMOEAAyCABGPmmuVRAAFiAA7gCykTv7h1Dx3T7rAL5uLzRunvaOLhYVXl8_mSPRC70-VggCUMHRcGHW_0qgL8MGwizAIQhlUQyBcOIQWKsbyszC0Lw0QA) is an example using `axis type 'time'`.
I dont understand why the solution I provided is not applicable. You can also use the [label formatter function](https://echarts.apache.org/en/option.html#xAxis.axisLabel.formatter) to bring the dates into a format of your choice: [Example](https://echarts.apache.org/examples/en/editor.html?c=line-simple&code=MYewdgzgLgBAJgQygmBeGBtDByATABlwBYBafARjPOwBoZyBWfAXTpwOKrIGZaZduLNnkKkKZBn3IAOIe1FdyvOuQLNmAbgBQWkAAcoAS3BoYAby0wYADwCC1wxABc5y1ZhQAnnoCmL7EYAtj60blaBCNYAkmBQPgBOAG4IADYu5PiZMABUMABs-Dn5hbnEdO4VlVYA9NUw0AhgiPFwMPE-ECApAK5GJiAAZh6GwTCRjjAThmAwgYYpKY4-oE0QYWMOEAAyCABGPmmuVRAAFiAA7gCykTv7h1Dx3T4061YDIPERUHHx_maeAM8AF8SGZLpcQWY4HAgdh1kC3ECXlZPPZHC4LBUvL5_MkeiFEcj6glDB0XBh1pjKti_DBsIswCEiRVEMgXKyEMyYAirMwtECNEA)

There is an option for Gradient. See [this stackoverflow post](https://stackoverflow.com/questions/69522461/how-to-add-gradient-color-in-echarts).
You can achieve a similar effect by preprocessing your data and adding `null` values if your threshold is exceeded. [Example](https://echarts.apache.org/examples/en/editor.html?c=line-simple&code=MYewdgzgLgBAJgQygmBeGBtAUDTByAJgAYCAWAWiIoEYBmPAGhj2qKLwF0Gd9izKapRs1ptO3XBkIkKVctQBswvKTFceUvrJoB2ZaQCs7dZOn851AJzKjxibxkDyxZcTtYOAbixZQkWFAAFgBOAKYQgSAANnBoMKxsMABUMApEyanpKWTeftAwAA5hRSDA4RChcAAiSCjoGF5YAGYgwTAAFFGhsACWYHChAB6oRJ4wfQODMAA88LUAdF1gAOZBMOTxYxNDANQ7AJQwAN48RaElZRAV1QsFAK4R7YjIGNuDHPs8eQE9ALah1DiYFCAHcYDUoKEnrVXv0hhwMEQPt5cN8YFA_qECEDQeCkFDnghYZMdtQEUj9ijxk0Ohj_tiNnSATAAHzokLhSIxQ4nXC4M4XcqVCEIeb3R4YQnE-GIjg7IJhCLROBMMB3KJRZE8AC-WF1AuCpSFN2QYoegWhL0Ji1CKyC8g-PiwIAKGPAcV5MEGAEFBj0IAAuY7ogCeBVCQbwTLw2vsId9_qDR1D4cjADcEFE7qE8DBYzwKsEeuEg9g-cceOWoGGI8won0c_Zy4SgwajVdhbUm3meBw9Z4gA)
The properties [zlevel](https://echarts.apache.org/en/option.html#series-line.zlevel) and [z](https://echarts.apache.org/en/option.html#series-line.z) only exist on series level, not on markArea level. The z value of the markArea seems to be hard coded and unrelated to the z...
You can leave `silent = true` and just sort out events triggered by the markArea in the callback. [Example](https://echarts.apache.org/examples/en/editor.html?c=line-simple&code=PYBwLglsB2AEC8sDeAoWsAeBBDEDOAXMmurGAJ4gCmRA5AMYCGYVA5sAE7m0A0J6AE2aMiAbVoBZGL1i0AKgFcqM2gHUqAlXIAWClQDEOEFQGVmphdFoBdEgF8-6cjnxFUpMpRqyAbowA2SrT2jrB4VEZUhLCi_MQegsJiAIwArAAMPLAATADMmTnZACxZ2ckAHFnJualVRQDspQBs6dahHhTUdP4Q0MrtpGBGrKwRADK9VACiPlTQYERDSgPoALaMHADWWBxUIvEJ6BAsqyYU_t7uh6T0wP6cdEOM0HggG3NgvHGHAEacAhEAMJ3B6yXaaFYJP4cAEcVQQARgbREZLfUgONGJMD7WLXUi4vGkJDOXDRNLpDGEokk1w5dIUzGkWx45kJSkJABeRHScTsJFsdgA3CgRatyIDtBswAA6GAACloq2ACnCwFmHBkcreHEYqzwAEoEAA-A4QABmsC1G11eGlt1WIBgHzkXgQ8EQio2212jFoht2YAUHGgwvQJFuLzuVGl91YVp1ev1wrs-qAA)
Clearly a bug. For your use case it should be fine if you just not touch the z of the bar series.
You could use `'value'` axis only for visuals, setting [min / max](https://echarts.apache.org/en/option.html#xAxis.min) such that it fits your scale and use an invisibe `'category'` axis to place the data on. [Example](https://echarts.apache.org/examples/en/editor.html?c=heatmap-cartesian&code=PYBwLglsB2AEC8sDeAoWsDmAnCATAXMmurABYCmEGpYhA5AKwAMApHQDTHoDueYp9ACysOXWGFD0AjCM4lYAG3IAzWrDoBmEcQC-c2AA8AggYgBnQgG0xqeejABPEOXoA3AIYKAruVF3YALYQ0IQAtEwAdAz68gHuBoSR0WJ6NmL2Ti7qAMbuYOQYwFgOfnZmpMDchMqeZuQxJLh57lZM7FIAuin6HfoOJuZWaf6Ozm6ePqWxwWFJDehxCbBz3cN2o1l0ufmFxVMk5ZXVtfXpsE1gLbCWbZ2r6L3EdTjkFtdr8hv0FHlxIPvoYymMwASWguHISyk81g_WBYIhUJhEHyAQAyo4lIRbP5YNlgAoivQAMTKZS4Cm4AEkABGRQhWAA6nwBLBoWd0HSsAyAMIEonqYlMYV0M6pfwXK7WXHXNrLdjLKKPGWWaFshXhJVnLryHTELo6ADcQA)
