@nrainer-materialize can you rebase this PR with the latest main such that includes this change https://github.com/MaterializeInc/materialize/pull/29600 ? I think the upsert issues may get resolved once that change is in

I'm feeling like we have a bunch of hanging queries in CI since switching to new syntax table-from-source syntax. I'm afraid this PR might make the problem worse. Other than that, no complaints.

I understand but we need to get these changes merged. They (and a couple of related, large PRs) are already pending since some time and will cause merge conflicts all the time.
