Materialious isn't a native Android application and uses shaka player for handling SABR & botguard to allow functionality with YouTube.

I don't believe it would be possible for Materialious to support background playback without us implementing SABR & botgaurd into 2 separate players, what isn't very maintainable.

Materialious use to support background playback, but doesn't anymore.

Possibility to have background audio playback with simple modification

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/52028940/how-can-i-make-webview-keep-a-video-or-audio-playing-in-the-background#52030464

Can also implement media controls with https://github.com/ingageco/capacitor-music-controls-plugin

A out of app pip style background player won't be possible tho.

Use capacitorjs app state to pause playback if background playback is disabled

https://capacitorjs.com/docs/apis/app

This is stalled until Capacitorjs allows use to modify the webview used.
