The Freetube experiment

Open WardPearce opened this issue 7 months ago • 5 comments

Materialious started as a simple web app as a alternative to Invidious' frontend built ontop of Invidious' API.

Now we've expanded to being a desktop and Android app with our own video processing via youtubejs (optionally)

I've never used Freetube for more then a few minutes years ago, so I'm planning on using Freetube on my desktop for to next couple weeks and create sub issues for any features I think Materialious should add what freetube has.

Hello, thank you for this wonderful software!

Sorry if this isn't the right place for this "request", as a long time user of freetube the only thing I really miss in Materialious is locally stored subscriptions (or bookmarks or favorites channels if you prefer).

It always opens on the home page where there is nothing I want to watch, I'd prefer if it would open on my favorites channels.

There's a setting in "Interface" where you can change your Default page to "Subscriptions", but it looks like subscriptions are broken in Invidious right now, so the page stays blank. :( And you need an account on the instance. If they were local, it would be epic.

As a fellow Freetube user, just having the channels show up for quick access, even if it doesn't show new videos, would totally be a killer feature.

I've disabled accounts on the Materialious invidious instance, as Invidious doesn't currently scale well with accounts & people should use their own Invidious instances.

Implementing our own local subscription feed like Freetube would be nice, but currently out of scope as its a massive undertaking.

What about something that wasn't a "feed", but just something like channel bookmarks? So it didn't check for videos, but just served as an alternative to having to punch in "Second Wind", "Mischief of Mice", etc manually into search on every load? Might that be more doable?
