Need twitter dev account

Open calvinhyang opened this issue 6 years ago • 19 comments

Are we really expected to apply for a twitter dev account to use sarasa bot? Just bought, and turns out I need to apply for a dev account so I can't even use it. By time it gets approval (if it even gets approval) my license might be expired already

Hello, Indeed, as of July 2018, a Twitter developer account is required to create a new Twitter application. A possible description of the use case (Use case details step in the Twitter Developer access application) is:

My intended service reads public tweets published by the players of the video game "Granblue Fantasy", these tweets being the main mean in this game for players to advertise their "group" and tackle "dungeons" by inviting other players in their "group". Each such tweet includes a unique ID to access a "group". Thus, the main purpose is to extract from tweets these unique IDs to join other player "groups" in near real-time.

As such, the core use case is entirely recreational and limited to personal use, and consists in reading data (not storing) from public tweets in the context of the video game "Granblue Fantasy", such as this one https://twitter.com/kh_far/status/1039423290920513536

The use case does not involve any interaction with any Tweet (retweeting, liking, or any other actions which would change the status of a Tweet) or Twitter user. No Tweet posts are generated either. My use only involves reading data from some public Tweets.

Make sure not to tick any of the checkboxes, as this will most likely lead to further inquiries about your use case, as can be seen in some posts below.

In your case, once you get the approval from Twitter, please send a request with the email you used to register an account on https://gbtools.azurewebsites.net to [email protected]. This way, I will be able to extend your licence to compensate for the time lost while waiting for the developer account approval.

Edit: September 11 2018, added information about checkboxes during the application process.

I think you should place this as a popup of sorts to alert people of their need to do this before they make the purchase for bot so that it will allow them not go through hassle of applying it only after purchasing and needing to wait for application approval. I also just bought bot and realised i need to apply for it. I hope my license will be extended as i now cant use bot till twitter approves it.

How long will it take to accept the request? I renewed my license yesterday and did not know about the developer account. Google translator

I really can't tell, with the holidays it can take much longer than one would normally expect. I have tried applying for a new developer account as well 5 days. I am still waiting for a response.

Hello,

If they wish to have a clearer picture of the different points mentioned in their replies, here is a take on it:

Point by point

Hello,

Thank you for your reply, please find below the clarifications for each of the points:

The core use case, intent, or business purpose for your use of the Twitter APIs

There is no business purpose involved. The core use case is entirely recreational and limited to personal use, and consists in reading data (not storing) from public tweets in the context of the video game "Granblue Fantasy", such as this one https://twitter.com/kh_far/status/1039423290920513536

If you intend to analyze Tweets, Twitter users, or their content, share details about the analyses you plan to conduct and the methods or techniques

The "analysis" of the tweets such as the one mentioned above only consists in reading the data on these tweets without any further processing. Therefore this does not qualify as "analyzing tweets".

If your use involves Tweeting, Retweeting, or liking content, share how you will interact with Twitter users or their content

The use case does not involve any interaction with any Tweet (retweeting, liking, or any other actions which would change the status of a Tweet) or Twitter user. No Tweet posts are generated either. My use only involves reading data from some public Tweets.

If you'll display Twitter content off Twitter, explain how and where Tweets and Twitter content will be displayed to users of your product or service, including whether Tweets and Twitter content will be displayed at row level or aggregated

This does not apply. No Twitter content will be generated or displayed. Besides, I would like to reiterate that the core use case is for personal use, so that the only user of my service is myself.

Best regards

In case your Twitter application is rejected, do not panic and please take note of the following.

The large number of applications copy-pasting the same comments may be discarded automatically by spam filtering rules. If a lot of people apply for a Twitter account and all of them invoke the exact same reasons, those applications are very likely to be rejected for they could be labelled as bots (non human users) applying for Twitter developer accounts.

If you are in this case, the easiest thing you can do would be to start again from scratch the Twitter developer account application with a new Twitter account and invent your own valid use case.

Hi! Did you finally got an dev account? If so congrats! Im a international student in UK but based in China now due to COVID travel restrictions. I really need a dev account for my school work but I got rejected. My use case was very simple, legitimate and non-intrusive, everything totally complies. I guess its because of my phone number not in UK, I used my uni email address but I got rejected!! So frustrated and mad about this!
