Auto-Download Symbols

Open CaiB opened this issue 5 months ago • 6 comments

Describe the solution you'd like

Please add an option to auto-download symbols from MS servers if the previously downloaded ones do not match the currently installed Windows version at startup.

Your reason (tell us why we need it)

I enjoy the effect that DWMBlurGlass adds, and would like to continue using it. However, after every single monthly Windows (10) update, the symbols are no longer valid, and require re-downloading. On first startup after such an update, I get a cascade of 3 error messages on the desktop at login. Resolving the problem is as simple as opening DWMBlurGlass, and just clicking Download on the Symbols tab. While this isn't hard, it gets really tedious. I have better things to do with my time than to do pointless manual maintenance on an aesthetic tweak that should just be set-and-forget. Whenever the symbols are invalid at system startup (since I have DWMBlurGlass set to launch on start), please just automatically do this task for me.

Describe alternatives you've considered

Yeah this part of it totally blows my mind; I can't see a reason to have it be something the user always has to go into the menu and click. Not hugely difficult but just makes no sense to not have it do this on its own.

What's worse, with the "MiaoUI" library that is used, AutoHotkey scripts are unable to easily interact with this GUI (only ImageSearch worked for me, not even UIA, and it's problematic). I'm currently working on an AHK script that'll fix this problem for anyone who wants it.
