Feature Request: Dual heater elements within the same kettle

Open kaljade opened this issue 6 years ago • 4 comments

Hi there,

Firstly, love you work! It is great to see what you've done and what is possible is really up to the imagination.

That said I think it would be great to be able to have two independently configurable elements within the same kettle. Currently the only way to do this is via plugins such as Groups or Dependent Actors, neither of which allow them to be independently configured as they are treated as one actor by CBPi3

As an example the ability to set the main element to PID but if the target temperature is above a configurable "Max. PID Temperature" threshold the second element is initiated, this could then have it's own configuration eg overshoot so that it is then disengaged once another predetermined threshold is reached.

This would be great for quickly getting up to strike temp, ramping up between mash profiles, and getting up to boil faster after mash out.

Cheers,

Kal

Hello?

Am I the only brewer with dual heating elements?

Hi Manuel,

First of all, let me congratulate you on a great software and hardware combination with the Raspberry PI, it has been a lot of fun to combine my love of electronics, software and homebrewing, great stuff and a lot of fun.

I have been building a brewing control system with the Raspberry PI and the Craftbeerpi software system using the Robobrew, a single vessel system from Australia. It has two heating elements, one 1900kw@240vac and one 500kw@240vac. I have so far used the Craftbeerpi system to control my fermentation fridge with good results and have been working on the control of the Robobrew system as a plan B as the control board that comes with the Robobrew is very cheap and nasty, hence I need a plan B.

It would be good to have the ability to have two heating actors attached to the brew kettle but the way I manage it is to have a mash tun with the small element and a kettle with the big element but there are several single vessel systems like the Robobrew so it would be good if there was the ability to have two actors on the kettle.

Once again great work of this system, thank you.

Regards

IIRC there is an actor plugin to sequence e element for variable power.
