Header functionality for Word documents in a Manifest

Feature Description

Header functionality for Word documents in a Manifest

Why is this feature important? Who does it help?

This feature is important in improving Manifold's functionality with open textbooks. These files are quite large, and we therefore use a Manifest to import them in parts, but the Manifest loses the headers used in Word (.docx), which means that entire chapters and subchapters disappear. A highly-structured open textbook would be infeasible to upload in a Manifest section-by-section.

User Stories

As a director of an open textbook program, I need Word headers to function in a Manifest so I can successfully upload and ingest large open textbooks in Manifold.

Design Notes

This is a filesize issue: 100+-page documents aren't great in Word or in uploading them to Manifold. We just need a way to put multi-part textbooks in through a manifest, completely ignoring any .yml structure and following only the header structure of the documents in order. (For example, if we put in a textbook in parts, these files shouldn't dictate any structure in the actual book; only the H1s, H2s, etc.)

Thank you for taking the time to open this feature request. The Manifold team reviewed this issue during our bi-weekly meeting and the consensus is that this feature makes sense and is in keeping with our overall vision for the platform. Moreover, we see this request as a viable candidate for development under our current available funding. We’re adding an “accepted” label to this request to indicate that it’s within scope and possibly within budget.

The next step is for us to estimate the work involved with this and add it to our feature backlog. Our acceptance of the issue is not a promise that it will be implemented. We will balance this request against the other accepted requests and do our best to implement it within our current available funding.

This was an automated message, but please don't hesitate to reply. Our team watches these issues closely and will respond as soon as we're able to!
