Also show forecast, besides history

Open johndoe0815 opened this issue 2 years ago • 4 comments

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. Even though the history gives an indication about how things evolve, a forecast makes things easier.

Describe the solution you'd like Besides the history, rainviewer.com also shows a forecast for the next 60 minutes. The user can choose if he only wants to see the forecast, only the history, or both. Currently the integration seems to be only able to show the history. It would be nice to also have the forecast available.

Fully agree and support this request. Card would be much more useful if it would allow for forecast data instead of history.

This is something I have thought about, but it is a substantial amount of work to implement as the api's for the nowcast (ie. future tiles) is completely different. It also will require a bunch of work around doing updates. At the moment I only have to worry about when a new set of tiles becomes available, to implement the future stuff I have to worry about updating the for the most recent nowcast set as well as revisiting the real data and replacing the predictions with the real data. It is a lot of work and Rainviewer only provide 30 minutes of guesswork unless you pay them money, so while I think this might be a nice to have it is going to take a low priority for now.

Thanks for the feedback! I was not aware that history and future are so separated, as in the rainviewer app it is just seamlessly going from past to future. But you are right, it is just 30 minutes (in the initial post I wrongly stated 60), and if this is making things very complex I can fully understand that this does not have the highest priority for you. For a quite new integration I am already positively surprised by the GUI configuration, where others after years still require complete yaml!

@johndoe0815 they do provide 60 minutes, but it is not free. Interestingly our bureau here in Australia has insinuated that they are not far off from adding nowcast imagery. That may bump this enhancement up my to do list. While this card is new, it is based off my original bom radar card (Australia only) so a lot of issues to do with new cards have already been dealt with. It was only recently I found rainviewer and realised I could do a global card.
