what is the purpose of the resistors in the CAN RX line?

Hi, There are some differences in connecting the esp32 to the mcp2551 displayed on various examples online. You use 2 resistors and the GND line connected in the RX line. Could you explain what the purpose of those resistors is? I'm not saying it is wrong i just would like to understand the purpose.

It reduces the 5v from the can xcvr chip to 3.3v of the esp32.
