Unknown annotations MIT-BIH Polysomnographic Database

Hello,

The page "MIT-BIH Polysomnographic Database: Signals and Annotations" this dataset does not include the meaning for symbol "M" that is present in the annotation files. How to interpret this symbol?

Does anyone know what "+" means? it is present in the annotations but, visually, it doesn't seem to refer to a beat, but more of a signal peak
