Non-US English characters are not supported in usernames

Someone registers for PhysioNet with a name containing non-US English characters (e.g. "à") and then attempts to request access to the MIMIC-III Clinical Database project. After agreeing to the terms and conditions of the DUA, they receive the following error message:

not well-formed (invalid token) at...
