Need to exclude ICU patients admitted between 2008 and 2012 from MIMIC-IV

Hello,

I would like to exclude ICU patients in MIMIC-IV who were admitted between 2008 and 2012 for a validation study. Is this possible in MIMIC-IV?

Summary of findings so far:

  • According to the MIMIC-III issue #538, @alistairewj mentioned that the actual year of hospitalization is not available in MIMIC-III (I'm not sure if this is true for MIMIC-IV).
  • As mentioned in the MIMIC-IV documentation ("distinct patients are not temporally comparable"), the deidentified years are not temporally ordered. I believe this means that we cannot simply exclude the first oldest 4 years of admission to obtain the cohort of interest (i.e., patients admitted after 2012).
  • However, the MIMIC-III CareVue subset documentation states, "The date shifting approach was changed in MIMIC-IV to preserve year of admission (with added noise), while the day of the week and season was obscured." What does 'preserve year of admission' mean in MIMIC-IV? Still, I can see 105 different de-identified ICU admit years in MIMIC-IV.

Any suggestions are welcome!

Thanks, Lasith
