Chunk unloading occurring near or within view of player
I am getting those holes in the world as shared by others and as I understand it is due to VRAM filling up and chunks unloading. I have a RTX 3070 8GB and currently have Max GPU memory set to 4096. I am willing to set 6144 or 7168 I just don't want to allocate more because I watch YouTube and do other things while gaming.
The thing I am noticing is when chunks do invariably get unloaded they seem to happen randomly across the terrain, including near the player and within view. You can travel right into these chunks and stand on invisible blocks and the only way I've found to load them is F3+A. Is it feasible to only unload the most distant chunks from the player instead to preserve terrain visuals around the player? Or perhaps my issue is related to mods or my settings.
Mod I'm using if it helps:
- Nvidium
- Fabric API
- Sodium
- Lithium
- Bobby
- Mod Menu
- YACL
- Cloth config
- FogLooksGoodNow
- mru
- Freecam fabric
- lightlevel
- litematica
- malilib
- Worldedit
Settings overview: (is this too extreme?)
- Game
- Render distance 128
- Simulation distance 8
- Fancy graphics
- Mipmap 4x
- Bobby
- Max render distance 128
- Single player server view distance 32
- Chunk unload delay 600
- Nvidium
- Region keep 128
- Max gpu 4096
If anyone is wondering why I'm using 128 it's because I'm trying to match, at least aesthetically, what I had previously when using Distant Horizons. If these setting are just too extreme for 8GB of VRAM that's fine, I am really just trying to dial things in. I've had a little trouble finding documentation on this.
