@ is impractical for mentioning when the target requires @ to be mentioned

At first I didn't understand at all that I need to type @ to start autocompleting nick until I hit it accidentally or in order to mention Telegram/Slack user which both require @username for mentioning, username isn't enough.

Now I am doing the mistake of @TGuser and when the user is also on IRC, I mention the IRC connection as RevolutionIRC stealthily removes the @ from the message.

I don't know how this should be implemented, my first though would be it being lesser evil of just having the @ visible for other users, but then I thought that it's likely that some clients ignore @nick being the same as nick and it would probably lead to complaints from users saying that everyone tells them that they don't need the @ in IRC.

@Mikaela It's not obvious, but you can double tap the input field to autocomplete nicks as well.

I agree that @ should not be a prefix that triggers autocomplete; @nick has no meaning in IRC itself. It is meaningful only to gateways where it is otherwise useful, such as in Slack which has already been mentioned, and even then it is only meaningful to those on the other end of the gateway.

👍 It's just not correct behavior for normal IRC usage.

The autocomplete trigger for @ should either be removed, or available as a non-default option. With the exception of gateways, @ for mentioning is an anti-pattern, regardless of whether or not it shows up in the final message.

This is simply about being used to use @ in other apps. This is fully customizable in the settings.

I think RevolutionIRC settings have became complicated and the default behaviours change without warning and nowhere tells when new settings appear.

Well just to make this clear:

default behaviours change without warning

Sorry, but I haven't yet ever changed a default behaviour even once.

nowhere tells when new settings appear

This setting, as far as I remember, was there since the first release.

If you have an idea on how to improve the settings though, you're welcome to suggest it.

Sorry, I wasn't in very good condition at time I previously commented.

I guess I have changed the defaults then and have forgotten them. I should take a look at them more often.

I don't know how good idea this is, but I think ISSUE_TEMPLATE.md would help at least me if it had e.g.

[ ] I have read RevolutionIRC settings and haven't found this there.

but I think this is more of me doing human error by not doing that without additional prompting. It could also ask for Android / RevolutionIRC versions.

@ is an unfortunare char for some keyb. I can suggest not to use it at all and make doubletap to autocomplete the word on the left
