No Issue needed. This [PR](https://github.com/stoqs/stoqs/pull/638) updates the UI with instructions to use dbconn_jdbc_stoqs.m.
There has been a lot of buzz about Leaflet and that it's easier to use than OpenLayers. It might be worth evaluating Leaflet before embarking on an OpenLayers 3 upgrade.
