Android/Pixel Ultra HDR support

Open fredgolightly opened this issue 7 months ago • 1 comments

Would it be possible to keep the ultra hdr grain map which newer Pixel phones produce? Some documentation on if here https://developer.android.com/media/platform/hdr-image-format and a sample image here https://gofile.io/d/9JAB6J

If you'd like any more info or samples I'm happy to share some. You will need a hdr-capable screen to see the extra bright ultra hdr on like a Pixel 8 or above for example.

This might be a duplicate of #301. I'd like to point out this in particular: https://github.com/Lymphatus/caesium-image-compressor/issues/301#issuecomment-2383847242 As discussed there, it's a bit complicated to get it right and it's a quite a niche case. I'd say this is not on the table right now, since I have other features with higher priority to address.

If you have hints or ideas on how to handle this particular kind of images, feel free to discuss it here and maybe we can figure out something.
