Game freeze/crash after 1.03 update
As mentioned in the title and confirmed by multiple people here from nexusmods: https://www.nexusmods.com/finalfantasy16/mods/6?tab=posts , the game freezes after short amounts of gameplay.
The issue does not occur without this mod. Any fix possible for game version 1.03?
Can confirm this. Just now my game froze/crashed on the Stillwind viilage. Earlier as well, my game froze on the opening cgi scenes with Ifrit and Phoenix.
I've just played through the opening of the game again up until you start to take control of young Clive. I encountered no freezing. Can you elaborate with more details please? It would be good to know if you're using FSR frame generation for example, or if disabling any part of FFXVIFix through the ini makes any difference. Also if you can post your FFXVIFix.log file that may help.
Without being able to reproduce the issue on my end, I'll need as much information as possible to try and figure out what's causing the issue for you.
Thank you for looking into this. It happened mostly right before or at the very end of a cutscene(which may be the same if multiple are playing b2b) and pausing the game. Sometimes after 30min, sometimes after 50, and the last time it happened to me was after 10 min of playing.
The game is basically coming to a standstill. Music continues to play but no input is possible, neither with the controller nor with the mouse and keyboard. I can immediately tell that my CPU and GPU are no longer being used to their full capacity by the game because the fans immediately become quieter. I believe this is a classic case of "application hang" (?).
I do use the ingame FSR frame gen, but it kept happenning when i turned it off.
I use this mod mainly to turn off DoF and cutscene fps cap. That's why some things are turned off. Here is my last log file, so you can see what I have on. I hope this helps.
Are you playing a cracked version? FFXVIFix doesn't work with that.
Try setting the three options under "[Game Window]" in FFXVIFix.ini to false. This will help at least to rule out the modifications to the wndproc.

That worked! I played 3 hours without any freezing. Thank you
happens to me also , the above workaround did not work , but from what i can tell it happens while going through the menu
this is the error that i get. to reproduce it easy just when starting a fight , lock on to an enemy and pause and just left and right quickly through the menus
I too am crashing after this update. interestingly disabling DLSS frame Gen seems to partially resolve the issue but i seem to get random flashes of black whilst playing without FG.

Actually I take it back, its crashing for me no matter what today. Removing the mod results in no crash
Hi everyone!
I think i've found the problem, as some people said its the frame generation, but not ingame, only in the cutscenes, after disabling them, the game did not crash anymore.
[Cutscene Frame Generation] Enabled = false
I will be testing it this weekend, let's see if this fixes all crashes.
Hi Lyall, Im still getting the issue. i have taken the following steps. Complete uninstall inc del app data and game data folders, followed by fresh reinstall and patch with FFXVIFix. latest NVidia drivers are installed (572.70) settings are all high with DLSS balanced and FG on. Settings in FFFix are all default and i have tried turning all [game window] settings off, as above and it did not make a difference. When the Fix is removed there's no crash for me. The crash is immediate upon loading into my save file, i see Clive for about 2 seconds and crash. Please find log file attached. happy to provide further info if required.
GUYS, it's not the mod.
delete your DX cache from square enix folder (TWICE, one after it creates it again after restart then delete it again). it IT starts compiling your SHADERS in a slow mode (takes between 5 minutes to 15 for older cpus), that means it should WORK.
if your compiler takes 5 seconds, delete it immediately and restart.
DX shader cache is here C:\Users\yourUSERname\AppData\Local\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XVI\ some file name that ends with a .PSOL extension.
