Anisotropy Rotation

Open ThorntonStrolia opened this issue 4 years ago • 0 comments

It would be cool to see an option in luxcore to allow for anisotropy rotation. This has become standard in most engines as the X/Y system has long been a dated method. Anisotropy rotation can easily be controlled with a rotation map image using black being 0 degrees and white being 360 degrees. In some cases it can also be controlled using a tangent map which in some cases can be even easier to use and offer more flexibility, but can be difficult for the general user to make without tools like substance. This makes complex anisotropy very simple and would solve the problem of radial anisotropy being dependant on the poly count. Using a rotation map would allow you to have a single 4 vertex square with radial anisotropy.

This functionality has become somewhat vital in the physical accuracy of metals and complex materials like carbon fiber and I believe it is a much-needed addition to lux core.
