After Uninstalling fonts still appear as Special Characters

Issue

After switching back to default system font (San Francisco), then Uninstalling macOSLucidaGrande, Application fonts still appear as Special Characters rather than default system font

Steps to Reproduce

  • Open macOSLucidaGrande
  • Switch back to default system font (San Francisco)
  • Uninstall macOSLucidaGrande
  • Reboot machine

Expected Result

Default system font should be restored system-wide (including all applications).

Actual Result (Issue)

Application fonts still appear as Special Characters rather than default system font

Found a fix. If you manually clear the font cache via terminal, all is back to normal.

sudo atsutil databases -remove
