Spaces in Email subfolder messes up mbsync

If you have folders in your inbox which have spaces in their name, it results in the folders unable to sync mail:

Workaround I had to apply to get it working was replacing all folders' spaces with dashes on the mail provider's end; then I cleared out .local/share/mail and resynced:

The syncing works fine afterward.
