Facing multiple issues on desktop and mobile

Open greetclammy opened this issue 1 year ago • 11 comments

Intermittently, on macOS, the plugin appears to:

  1. Cause the entire Obsidian window to become blank.
  2. Cause "Obsidian Helper (Renderer)" process to use >100% CPU, and freeze Obsidian, forcing one to perform a force quit.

On iOS:

  1. When "Only open folder notes through the name" is ON, folder notes still open by pressing anywhere, not just the name.

While I very much wanted to incorporate this plugin into my workflow, it creates more problems than it solves. Given the multitude of issues I encountered, providing a detailed bug report about each one would take too much time.

It's a shame there don't seem to be any other plugins with a similar feature set.

I can't reproduce the bugs you described you've on macOS but I'll look into the iOS bugs. Could you try to reproduce the bugs you've on macOS and try if it also works in the sandbox vault? Thanks that would be great

Thank you for the response. While I can't claim definitively that the macOS issues were caused by the plugin, I only experienced them while using it, and not before or after I used it. I will try to reproduce them if I ever revisit this plugin (perhaps if bugs I encountered on iOS get squashed) but I'm not ready to do so now.

I updated the OP to reflect the issues that I still experience, and to remove the ones that ceased to be a problem. I also provided debug info.

Interestingly, enabling ‘Folder notes’ has reset another plugin's (‘Novel word count’) settings to default. This is very odd. But given that both plugins modify the appearance of the file explorer, perhaps there was some conflict between them.

Does the latest beta version change anything?

LostPaul avatar Jun 13 '25 07:06 LostPaul

Are you referring to Obsidian or the plugin? I'm not one to install beta versions but I could try if you let me know how!

Check out https://github.com/LostPaul/obsidian-folder-notes?tab=readme-ov-file#how-to-install-the-beta-version I don't know about any issues in the last version except the ones that the public ones already has so it is pretty stable and probably even better.

LostPaul avatar Jun 13 '25 08:06 LostPaul

Did you get it working and do you still have the issues?

LostPaul avatar Jun 17 '25 10:06 LostPaul

It's in my to-do list! Maybe I'll get to it eventually. After all, I do use your plugin daily 🙂

greetclammy avatar Jun 17 '25 14:06 greetclammy

Hey, I saw that you put up a new public version. Does it mean that your invitation to try out the beta is outdated now?

Regarding the issues:

I've been using the plugin daily on both macOS and iOS for many months. I haven't ran into the macOS issue in forever. The iOS problem persists (attached are my settings) but personally it's not an issue for me, as I only wish to open folder notes via the context menu.

Yes the beta version is now the same as the public version. Maybe it's some conflict with another plugin because it works for me https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/20751efa-545f-4bad-a28f-1cb728645bdd
