Always on search bar

The search bar always focused does not allow any keys to be pressed as shortcuts. For example, with NEI installed, pressing 'R' on it shows your the item recipe. With the always focused search bar, it would just search items with 'R'. Maybe make this a config or toggle-able somehow?

Making it not auto-focus would be enough, but I always appreciate if there are options for that.
