It should be two separate links to the login and signup page, if you're a new user you may be confused by being brought to the login page instead of the sign up page, and I have one report of a user on reddit being confused by this and unable to sign up here:

I'm referring to the link where the post a comment section would be if you were logged in

But I do agree the login page should have a register button right below the password.
