Meru softlock when trying to leave Wingly Forest

Description

1. Wingly Forest as Meru, first visit with solo Meru party.
2. After the dialogue with Guaraha, save the game.
3. Exit game.
4. Load the save.
5. Guaraha is no longer 'loaded' or standing where he needs to stand.
6. Try to leave through the portal.
7. Game soft locks after some Guaraha dialogue.

Image 2 is where Guaraha should be. Image 1 shows no Guaraha.

Script state not properly stored in save file? Or hacky script cutscene that is different to every other script?
