Only the vaguest ideas on implementation, but… One might start from an edition record with isbn but not a publisher identified. Searching on minimally truncated versions of an isbn returns...

Particularly for textbooks, some work titles, such as « Chemistry » or « Calculus » are reused by multiple works. To merge the work records, they must be disambiguated too....

@tfmorris That’s an interesting example. Of course I agree that low quality metadata sources (goodreadsss, AMZ, BwB) should not be amplified, but that still seems to be accepted OL practice....

@scottbarnes No apology needed. We all have learning to do, me more than most. I wonder if recording the Promise pallet associated with the (then unscanned) edition has a point...

Afaict all AMZ sites list the same offerings, except perhaps where local censorship laws intervene. Just the TLD and the currency changes.

Weird. That one works on .ca and .in but not .com nor .co.uk nor .de I haven’t seen this behaviour before.

It is not helpful to have multiple author records for Sir Walter Scott. It is even worse to have edition records explicitly and indelibly linking to the wrong author record,...

Maybe we've missed the point here. Why are author names in the index of works to begin with, rather than just author identifiers?
