Question about restart format

I happened to go searching for info about SAMRAI's I/O features and ran across this remark...

(e) Files written in HDF5 format should be architecture independent. However, we have experienced some problems with this functionality. At this point, restart files are NOT portable across machines of different architecture.

It is not urgent but at some point it would be good (for me anyways) to understand better what issues were encountered here. LLNL is currently funding work on HDF5 and if there are issues that can be corrected, I would like to hear about them.

This may be a comment that got into our docs years ago and then was forgotten. I know of no issue with this currently.
