I had this issue, until I realized that updating the compiler might help. Sure enough, Ved works now.

Ok, thanks for being a FOSS developer with a great package, and have a great day! This issue has served its purpose though, so I'll close it.
I was looking at solving this, but the sudo manual describes `SUDO_USER` as "Set to the login name of the user who invoked sudo," although for me it remains unset....
