KeeShare support
Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. Sharing passwords or only password groups etc. and syncing them.
Describe the solution you'd like KeeShare https://github.com/keepassxreboot/keepassxc/blob/develop/docs/QUICKSTART.md#using-sharing
Describe alternatives you've considered The alternative is already implemented in KeePassXC, so it would be best to support that.
Additional context The doc is currently not that good: https://github.com/keepassxreboot/keepassxc/issues/3220
~This functionality will not be implemented directly in KeePassDX because it will require adding internet permissions but it is possible to integrate it into a file manager application created expressly for this purpose.~
It does not require an internet permission. As you said, as a file saving etc it is perfectly acceptable. Syncing or whatever is needed to sync the files may be done by other apps (Nextcloud, Seafile, samba drives etc.).
It just needs to open and write into the .kbdx.share
file.
Oh sure, excuse me, I had misunderstood the request. I replied without thinking, my bad... :/ Yes it is a good idea to implement KeeShare! I have to study the inner workings of KeePassXC. In any case, the data synchronization system from two different sources must be done before.
if possible, can this be in the next milestone, i will really need it asap thanks so much
@MoussaAdam No, I work on my free time on a voluntary basis and I don't want to add constraints and deadlines because you ask. If you need it quickly, we can agree a service contract. We can discuss it by email if you wish.
oh sorry, yeah i understand, thx so much and your work is so appreciated, please enjoy and do whatever you want whenever you want
thank you for bringing this technology to our smartphones ❤️
Thank you for the message. Sorry if I'm direct but I prefer to remember things. I receive a lot of requests and I have to manage tight schedules, people think that the work is done in a magical way but this is not the case. KeeShare will be integrated but there are other issues with higher priorities.
no worries, I really understand I love your work so much, I know you take the effort and time to create, update, maintain and share this opensource project and it means a lot, it also brings lots of benefits for developers, they can study each others code and learn from each others. I know that –sadly– free and opensource projects maintainers don't usually get any thank or appreciateion for their efforts, people just expect them to give, I want to thank you and everyone who work on opensource and free software and sorry for our pressure as users
I hope one day I contribute back
Edit:
- I mean everything I said but I guess enough darama from my side since this is unrelated to this issue 😅
I vote for KeeShare too. Keep your amazing work @J-Jamet
Is this easier or harder than issue #342 ? I'd be happy with either implementation, frankly👍
It's more a story of time and architecture.. #342 requires creating another app, and the source code of KeePassXC must be studied before designing KeeShare.
Any updates or estimate on this ?
See @J-Jamet 's recent comment in #342. He wrote to look at the idea he proposed in #840.
It looks like currently deletes KeeShare settings from databases. When I change a password database that was created by KeePassXC and contains KeeShare entries these are removed from the database.
The bug that was deleting data from KeeShare has been fixed (#1335) in KeePassDX version 3.4.5. KeeShare db creation is planned for new version ~4.0.0~ because it requires the opening of several databases simultaneously.
I saw "fix Keeshare" in the release notes of 3.4.5. Does that mean keeshare has already been implemented? Or is it still planned for 4.0.0? I can't seem to find any reference to keeshare in the settings.
Versions have changed according to the implementation priorities of the features, I plan to study the case in version 5.0.0. Version 4.0.0 is now dedicated to refactoring in modules. The version number evolves according to bugs and other features, look instead at the version number in the associated project : https://github.com/Kunzisoft/KeePassDX/projects?type=classic
The Keeshare fix was mainly to solve a bug that was overwriting the Keeshare settings when they were already in the database. So the settings are now preserved but the functionality itself is not developed.
I understand this is under development at your pace, and I respect that. But I just wanted to add my vote for KeeShare (to try to keep the priority up there). It would make a multi-device setup much more robust.
