Improve locked and sticky
I had a crazy idea to improve locked and sticky features.
Instead of having yet another locked topic, there are many different reasons why the topic was locked. This information would show up near the topic subject just like tags inside the topic.
User could have locked it by himself, because of his issue is SOLVED. Topic could have been locked because of it has been inactive for too long, making it CLOSED. Moderator may have LOCKED the topic because of it's getting out of control. If someone sells something in the topic, subject may have been SOLD.
Topic can also be sticky for various reasons.
Topic can be README FIRST or IMPORTANT. Events can be CURRENT etc..
Hey, Idea is GREAT and I hope it will be added in 2.1.
But, I think there is better solution to solve this kind of needs. And you have working example here on right side. I mean LABELS. We can create basic labels on default, but users (admins) should can remove it or/and make own. Labels should be customizable on backend like bbcode or emoticons. Set name of label and own style (css class!). We can add simple pallet of classes (colors) like we have for category color. But designers can add own styles with icons and other css stuff. So labels can be enhanced to real unique look.
Also filters by one or many labels are must be to make it complete. Here on Github this work fantastic, you know because you use it :) For example labels can be used to build company support forum.
This is a different solution than tags in 2.0.
Labels in github are like tags; closed and sticky are different to labels. Labels have no real meaning for the forum, where closed and sticky have very special meaning. That is why they should be kept separate.
Yes, I understand that. So maybe we can extend tags to have some kind predefined tags to use like labels here, with own classes? Because you cannot create a whole range of options like you count on examples for different kind of forums, CURRENT, SOLD, ANSWERED....
No it's really not done yet. There's a proposal to add solved, but my idea was much more than that.
Well I think we should do something called Status Labels, which are added by the administrator. SOLVED, LOCKED, ECT. Really depend on the environment of the site. For instance someone might want to add a label to a topic that says [IMPORTANT], ect. This should be separated from tags because tags are user generated.
