X Errors with vim + urxvt

When using vim in urxvt (possibly others), I get occasional X errors:

errorHandler (src/display.c:1732): X Error of failed request: BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter) errorHandler (src/display.c:1742): Major opcode of failed request: 155 errorHandler (src/display.c:1746): Minor opcode of failed request: 4 errorHandler (src/display.c:1750): Resource id in failed request: 0x3a02053

These typically happen when I start the editor, foreground it or switch tabs, but not always.
