Load Config automatically

Open CennoxX opened this issue 9 months ago • 1 comments

At the moment you have to click on the “Load Config” menu item every time you change the configuration, which can lead to irritated users if forgotten. Instead, clicking on “Edit Config” could monitor the NppOpenAi.ini file for changes until the file is closed.

Thank you for your feedback! It's a good idea, however I'm planning to create a (more convenient and easier to handle) Preferences modal window, so sooner or later there would be no need to directly edit NppOpenAI.ini.

Hi,

in the end, monitoring configuration/instruction files seemed easier than I thought, so starting with version v0.5, the "Load config" operation is now automatically performed when saving files (NppOpenAI.ini or NppOpenAI_instructions).

The new version is expected to be included in the next version of Notepad++, but it can of course also be installed manually (unzip the appropriate ZIP file to the plugins/NppOpenAI folder): https://github.com/Krazal/nppopenai/releases/tag/v0.5.0

Thank you for your feedback and patience!

This work, thanks! Why is there still a "Load Config" menu entry?

Hi,

it may happen that another program modifies the files and the saving is not done in Notepad++. In such cases, using "Load Config" can be useful.

However, constantly monitoring the files also can have unwanted results (e.g. loading them during an unfinished edit), so I definitely wanted to tie the loading to the save event. Of course, "Load Config" may be moved to a more appropriate place (Configuration dialog etc.) in the future.
