A couple comments about gpauto with Hero6...
From what I can tell, gpauto does work with Hero6, however a couple things to mention:
-
The file must have Unix ('\n') line endings, not Windows ('\r\n') -- at least when setting the camera name and password (otherwise the '\r' becomes part of the camera name and password)
-
Setting the password is permanent -- you will need to change the password at the top of the gpauto file for it to be executed next time (you can reset the camera name and password by doing a Factory Reset which will generate a new password - it won't go back to the original password)
-
gpauto is not executed every time the camera is turned on... you have to completely remove power to the camera either by removing the battery or by unplugging the usb cable (if on remote power) in order for gpauto to be executed.
Tried this few years ago, before 2021.. without success, HERO5..
Looking at the @lcoffin feedback gave second breath to try :)
For some cases even without battery and plug camera still wasn't executing the scripts. However repeating the whole turn-off and turn-on steps with a bit of patience gave same exactly results as I need.
