Creating System Restore Point Leads to App Crash

Open GitAlexToTheGreek opened this issue 2 years ago • 6 comments

Hi there,

Running version 5.4.0.0 on Windows 11

App is crashing/exiting during the system restore point creation step of an uninstallation ("Bitdefender VPN" in case it's relevant).

Wondering if I should simply try reinstalling BCU or if there's further troubleshooting steps?

Thanks in advance, Alex

Update: same crash occurs when attempting to uninstall Opera Browser, in case the question of whether it's specifically app-related is relevant...

Still requesting some guidance on whether I should simply try reinstalling BCU or if there's more to it.

Hello! What exactly happens? Do you get a error report window or does the application instantly close? Send the BCUninstaller.log file from the app directory.

Hi Marcin,

Thanks for the follow-up!

There's no error report window, the app just vanishes soon after initiating the sys restore point creation process...

I just tried to create a new point, via "Tools/Create a new restore point" in BCU this time (as opposed to via the uninstallation process) and it crashed again, in the same manner as before.

Here's the "BCUninstaller.log" file... https://www.filemail.com/d/mzpbdwgkhefavey

...but I don't notice anything pertinent, nor does there seem to be a record of the most recent activity...

Please let me know if there's anything to be adjusted on my end in order to get a more detailed log.

Check Windows event viewer / windows logs / application for any errors that happen when BCU crashes.

🤷 And now it works again? 😀

Opened the event viewer to the specified section, opened BCU, tried the process again via "Tools/Create a new restore point"...and it worked properly.

No idea what changed or what caused the crashes in the first place.

I'll follow up again if necessary, but for now, seems like everything's working 👍

You can still check for past crashes in the application log. It sounds like it was some windows issue in this case, maybe windows update was running or something like that.
