REFERENCE: Source code availability details
Hi everyone!
I recently stumbled on this wonderful project. My first step was to study all of the documentation and see if it was a good match for what I wanted. The more I read, the more I was intrigued and impressed! :)
By reading all the documentation, I learned the core source code was proprietary, but I didn't know why. Before asking that question, I decided to search and learn as much as I could. In doing so, I discovered that I don't need to ask because others have already done so. And thorough answers have already been provided by the core developer, @polyvertex.
I spent over an hour finding all the details across multiple threads. I learned that the short answer is that the developer has currently chosen to keep the source code private, but is aware that quite a few people would like the source code to be open for inspection and to allow users to compile the code themselves.
I haven't decided yet whether or not being able to review and compile the source code myself will be deal-breaker for me. I'm still thinking about it. It would represent a significant exception for me to use a closed source project, but I have previously made a couple exceptions, so we'll see...
In the spirit of kindness and generosity, to save other people time (including the talented developer of the core), I would like to present the links to the references I found (and read).
If @polyvertex would like, I can spend a minute editing the README to link to this page or add other information to it. Else, this small document can simply remain as is as a way to help save visitors and @polyvertex valuable time.
Here are the references I found; all contain useful information:
