Suggestion: Downs display for team-mates counting down?

Open Malidictus opened this issue 7 years ago • 3 comments

This is a simple suggestion - is it possible to have the "downs" display for team-mates (number in the middle of the health display) count down like the player display does, as opposed to counting up. Having a different counting method consistently confuses me since I keep forgetting whose counts up and whose counts down if we're not all at maximum. Additionally, team-mates counting up makes it hard to know when someone's on his last down since "3" could mean last down or nor, depending on whether the player has Nine Lives.

Is it possible to create an option for the "downs" display to work as it currently does, or else count down for everybody, or else count up for everybody?

The reason teammates count up is because information about skills like Nine Lives is not synced between clients IIRC. So if you count down, you would either have to assume no one has it (leads to some displaying -1 when they're on their 4th down) or assume everyone has it (leads to some people going into custody before actually getting to 0 on the counter).

Counting up for everybody would be viable, but I'd rather have it count down for me since the information is there, and your own down counter is more important to you than others'.

Personally, I think the system is fine as is.

If it's not possible to count down for others, then I'd like to have the option of counting down for myself. To me, having two different styles of counting is confusing because I keep forgetting which style is used for which player. Learning it isn't the issue, so much as the dissonance of date I'm getting. I'd rather have something that's less informative but more standardised because that doesn't require me to think about the data I'm getting. With different systems used for myself and others, every time I look at the "downs" counters I need to take a second to remember which is which and which I'm currently looking at.

I'd simply like an alternate option.

I know this is extremely old, but considering it's still open I figured it's better to comment here instead of opening a new issue- since the game now shows down counters by default, would it not be possible to implement this now? Or is that information still not available in a way the script can use?
