Usage in Debian GNU/Linux Buster

Hi,

I was happy to find your effort to package Nix for Debian! Thank you for that.

Have you tried building and installing it for the Buster release? I built the binary package and installed it, but whichever nix-* command I try to use, I get an error. For example, when I run nix-channel --update I get:

unpacking channels...
warning: Nix search path entry '/nix/var/nix/profiles/per-user/root/channels' does not exist, ignoring
error: unable to start build process
error: program '/usr/bin/nix-env' failed with exit code 1

Do you know why? If it matters, this installation is in an LXC container also running Debian Buster.

I remember that I had issues when I tested it in containers.

You can try to add the following line to your /etc/nix/nix.conf:

build-use-sandbox = false

I can't remember if we had made this the default. It is at least worth a try.
