Summary of spent time in Tasks Editor Window
Hello,
I hope this is the right place for suggestions/wishes, too. :-)
I have begun to start using Charm several weeks ago and I am quite happy with it. One feature would help me gain a better overview, though: I would either like to have a summary column in the Tasks Editor Window, showing how much time I spent on every (sub)task in complete, cumulating all recorded events for each (sub)task - or a new type of report of a similar kind would do, too, of course (e.g. "Activity Report" with additional sums for earch subtask included and the listing of all related events made optional).
Let me read what you think about it. :-)
I think this is already covered by the Time Tracker and the Activity Report. Let me know how you think they should be improved and we might re-open. Thanks!
Well, I lack some kind of quick overview how much time I spent on which project so far in total (not just this week), eg to see if something's collecting too much effort or it's time for a bill - and when it comes to a report in detail or billing I'd like to have the total for a task - and each subtotal for its subtasks, not just the whole bunch of single events (yes, I could accumulate the subtasks in separate reports but that's not convenient at all).
Ok, I see. This can be done with the activity report but it's not that nice, I agree.
Ever had a look at KDE3s "ktimetracker"? The main window is a tree view of the task structure, showing all totals and subtotals, perfect overview. In case of interest in at which time which work was done there's a possibility for "reports", too - not at all as convenient to display as in Charm and the quick weekly overview of Charm is missing completely, though I was able to live with this.
Unfortunately, KDE3s ktimetracker is out of maintenance and tends to lose relationships between tasks and subtasks, therefore leaving and ending in a mess in the long end. It's successor in KDE4 has big trouble to show more than an empty window. So that lead me here :-) ... hoping, there might be a chance for Charm becoming a little ktimetrackier. ;-)
If you think, that that's too much to expect - be honest, please.
I don't think Charm is going to turn into ktimetracker but I'm sure there's probably ways we can improve it for your use case. It's unlikely to be in the next major version but showing some sort of total overview sounds doable.
Perhaps an overview with some small and nice context menu? "Delete task" and "export task as XML", each one including subtasks? The latter, because AFAICS there's no infrastructure to mark events/tasks as "billed"/"finished" or something like that. So exporting (in case the customer might have questions to a closed (sub)project later) and deleting might be easier to achieve ... ok, ok, I am already calm ... ;)
