Improve behaviour in case of config problems on startup

Currently, in a number of situations, Iromlab won't show a full GUI window on startup (e.g. if it cannot find the expected optical drive). Not really a problem, but it would look a bit nicer if e.g. some input validation could be done to prevent this.
