footer - meta-issue

A place to collect tasks around the footer. I'll start:

  • [ ] consider which other info/link are appropriate for the footer
  • [ ] visually organize links (currently very left weighted)

Currently, the community pages are pulled into the left column of the footer. But since community and the rest of the header is always on the page when scrolling, I suggest cutting out the footer completely, or at least trim it heavily. If anything, make it a single-row list (like Github's footer)

Suggestions for the footer:

  • This Github repo
  • Contact (move/copy from header)
  • Archive (move/copy from header)
  • Sponsors (move/copy from header)
  • Any Network-wide Sponsors get their own link (:heart: Linode)

Those are in the shows dropdown in the header already. It's less confusing to keep each link in just one of those two places; and the header looks so good as is. Therefore, I believe less footer is better. Compare with the old site.

But it seems helpful for a footer. I don't see why not to include it there as well

Demo here.

Got a mockup and a working demo incorporating a few of the suggested changes. Got some more optimizations I want to make for mobile before I call this ready, but y'all take a look at what I've got so far and tell me what you think/suggest additional changes before I start chopping away at the hugo template:
