[FR] Key to act as when Ctrl/Alt is pressed

Open HaleyHalcyon opened this issue 8 months ago • 4 comments

I usually use the Ctrl and Alt keys to do things on Unexpected Keyboard. I also use a non-Latin keyboard layout, and find it very restrictive when I can’t find the Latin letters to use keyboard shortcuts.

Can there be extra key/values for when Ctrl/Alt are pressed, like sck="a" sck_nw="b" sck_ne="c"?

Maybe what you need is modmap. It's available for ctrl, but not (maybe yet) for alt.

Image Yeah, it seems that it doesn’t work for Alt. Maybe it should also do that.

The sole purpose of Ctrl and Alt is to send Ctrl- and Alt- combinations to applications. Alt-combinations in particular are only useful in applications like remote desktops or terminals. I think what you need is to override the Fn modmap.

Sorry, my previous comment is missing the point. I guess you opened this issue in the context of https://github.com/Julow/Unexpected-Keyboard-layouts/pull/19

The ctrl modmap was actually made for this purpose. I think this feature should be generalized for Alt too.
