Road to 1.0

I'd like to move the whole JuliaImages stack to version numbers >= 1.0 (see JuliaImages/Images.jl#825). Let's use this issue to collect plans for breaking changes in the near future.

Items on my agenda:

decide whether we're happy with the status quo WRT #38
expanded issue: #126

Why don't you delete the methods with the old (deprecated) names of SpecialFunctions?

Didn't know they were there. This is the hazard of having warnings only print with --depwarn=true.
