This is actually super confusing, we need to simplify. I think when a date is far away in the future. If 144 is hours, the thats not useful, way to large a value, then we should count days. So find a better format which indictes units and shows the right amount of detail depending on how far into the future it is.

I think the counter effect is actually nice, and we could even double down on that, with some more urgent or severe presentation as you are gettin really close.
