[IGDB metadata] Expanded manual search by checkbox, to include updates, episodes, forks, and mods

Open Acru opened this issue 8 months ago • 3 comments

Currently, the IGDB plugin seems to filter out all pages marked as updates, episodes, and forks, among other possible types. This wasn't always the case, I have older metadata from matched episodes and such. Is this actually a bug, or intentional?

Usually you might not want to auto match to the above, with the exception of fully-named episodes, but when manually matching the above should show up in the search results, possibly via a checkbox toggle for giving expanded results.

I have run into issues with games marked with each of the three listed types above where I wanted to match;

  • Updates you usually want to skip in the search, except some games are marked as an Update where perhaps they should have been marked as an Expanded Game. One could submit a type change and wait, but it might not be accepted. I ought to be able to manually match to it if I want.
  • Episodes, like the old Telltale Games, often have unique cover art for each episode on IGDB, that I would like to automatically match, or at least be able to search and fetch. Currently getting results for only the base game.
  • Forks, I found one case where I can't match a game, that happens to have its roots as a fork of a dead game with a different name.
  • There may be other types that I may yet encounter an issue with. What else is filtered?

Can something be done about this?

Yeah, Mod would be another type that would mess up matching some games, heh. I didn't know about ID search, though a bit clunky if you have to do it a lot.

Well, I don't know when the new search will be available, but if it won't be for a while then perhaps a checkbox to not filter the manual search results could still be a possible enhancement in the mean time.

Can you say exactly what version of the plugin added the filter? In my case it might make more sense to temporarily downgrade the plugin, due to the number of items in my library that are affected.

Search is done on our backend, downgrading plugin version would not help.
