[Long-term] Order games within series

Open chocolatechipcats opened this issue 2 years ago • 7 comments

Feature description

Suggestion: The option to define the order of games within a specific series, which would affect series sort and perhaps optionally display in details ("1 of Half-Life")

Additionally, the option to leave a series unordered, which would then use title sort or date released.

See the attached screenshot of the "Manage Series" plugin for the Calibre eBook Manager. A similar dialog could probably be pulled up from the Library Manager.

Thanks in advance.

You can edit the sorting name, unless you want the original name for sorting in other contexts

that's what I usually do -- still, it'd be nice to order within series without screwing up the a-z sort order.

I would also like some form of sort order of series. A good example of a series would be the Monkey Island series.

The Secret of Monkey Island Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge The Curse of Monkey Island Escape from Monkey Island Tales of Monkey Island Return to Monkey Island

Alphabetically this is kind of a nightmare to figure out what the game order is. I was thinking a series order input that would perhaps only be active when you group by series or something similar.

Well I think, that this is EXACTLY the task for the sorting name. Nothing more, noting less. Yes you can't see the number in the library, but nobody stops you to edit it in yourself...

And since no system and probably no database holds the information anyway... Well kinda: monkeyisland And it is buried as heck...

Just use the tools you have and world is you oyster.

The tools available don't have the capability as far as I can tell.

I listed the Monkey Island games as an example. The list is the actual game number order, but trying to memorize that Escape from Monkey Island is game 4 is not something I'm going to do for every game series that has this issue.

Sure I could use the Sorting Name and list them as Monkey Island 1, 2, 3, etc.... But now looking for Escape from Monkey Island in my list means I find it in in the M's alphabetically instead of where it should be in E's.

With an order within series feature, you don't need to alter the names or the normal sort order but instead when selecting a series you can get that series ordered by game number.

I'd rather not mess up the a-z sort order.

There seems to be a new extension for playnite called Listicles. It's not exactly what I was hoping for but it does give me the ability to create lists of games in a series.
