Pro Tip: If FakeStandby is not keeping the screen black, try this...

Open Gitoffthelawn opened this issue 4 years ago • 6 comments

With FakeStandby v1.3.0 on Android 7.0, I found that the screen would reappear after a little while, even with FakeStandby enabled.

After some testing, I concluded it happens when Android's Screen Timeout is triggered.

After more testing, I found a workaround: Use Android's native functionality (via Settings -> Apps -> FakeStandby -> Notifications) to block all notifications from FakeStandby. This has worked for me, and hopefully it will help others too.

Okay, thanks for that tip. This is a topic that fits more into GH discussions that an issue. But anyway. I'll test this out and put this in the readme if it worked.

Unfortunately, this doesn't help for me on Galaxy A41, with Android10. It looks like it would work, but instead the phone is silently locked. So instead of seeing that FSB is terminated, the screen will stay black and lock. :(

@padrino-x Sorry the workaround didn't work for you too.

This brings up the bigger issue: What is happening that FSB is not working as intended on multiple versions of Android?

I'm on Android 12.1 and I also find the app stops blocking the screen after a while. I think it's related to the screen timeout. My workaround is to enable mueller-ma's Coffee app and this app together.

@locuturus Unfortunately, I'm not sure if this project is still alive...

@JonasBernard Are you still maintaining this project or have you moved on to more interesting things? =)

To be honest, I am trying to maintain it, but as you see, it does not work, as I have no time for the project. I want to call it a sleep rather than a death...

I moved from my dektop to a laptop last year and installed Android Studio there to work again on this project last week or so. Unfortunately my laptop cannot handle Android Studio, so I will get my desktop back to life again. This vanished my last motivations for the next days...

I am constantly reading all issues and try to reproduce them. I think about how to fix the bugs, but never really get my hands drity and code.

If someone has much spare time or has the necessary motivation to take the time needed and maintain the project, then please do so. PRs are welcome and I receive them fast. I can immediately read and accept them. Maybe I would transfer ownership (only if necessary)
