"Stash tab to existing group" option in context menu

Open 3xMUSIC opened this issue 4 years ago • 7 comments

Hi, Josh

As you've mentioned, there's an option to stash a tab to a certain group in a Tab Stash list using blue buttons. It'd be nice to have such an option in a context menu as well.

Thanks!

Regards, Andrei

Hi Andrei, got it, that makes sense. I'm not sure how much flexibility Firefox offers in terms of context menus but I'll definitely keep this in mind for a future release.

maybe to not bloat the conext menu give the user the ability to change the default action of the button ie in a sub menu via radio selector between 'stash/copy this Tab' , 'stash/copy this Tab to new Group' , 'stash/copy this Tab to Favorite' the Favorite should be simply settable via sitebar/Tab

greetings

Maybe even easier (although I have seen other extensions with dynamic menus): Have a fixed context menu "pick target stash group", open a dialog to select the tab group.

I'll add, this could be implemented by adding the option to set a hotkey in the preferences page, where if you press it, it shows a dialogue with a vertical list of all stashes, you can click on one to add the tabs to the stash, or you can navigate the list with up and down keys, and select the stash to save to with the enter key. There would also be a "new stash" option at the top of the dialogue.

One way of showing a dialogue is by adding HTML to the current page to show a menu. An example would be Simple Tab Groups. You click on the plugin then the gear icon > hotkeys > add hotkey > and set one for "move selected tabs to custom group". When you press it, it adds HTML to the current tab to select a group to move tabs to. Screenshot 2023-08-25 at 10 09 15 AM

One way of showing a dialogue is by adding HTML to the current page to show a menu.

Unfortunately, this would require granting Tab Stash some really powerful permissions to read/edit the content of every single page. That's way beyond what's reasonable for an extension like Tab Stash to ask for IMO—users should be comfortable that Tab Stash can't steal their data.

A similar effect could probably be achieved by making the Tab Stash UI itself more keyboard-friendly (a thing that's been on my list for a long time but which I haven't had time to do yet). Then you could use a keyboard shortcut to open the UI, and other shortcuts to navigate the actual UI to find the stash you want and save your tabs there. (That's probably more appropriate for discussion on the keyboard issue, though. See #131)

Thanks for a great extension for someone who usually keeps more than a thousand tabs open for various projects and frequently opens hundreds on a given day. I love that stashes are so easily managed via the bookmarks menu. Just to weigh in on this request, having the right-click context option to stash tabs to an existing stash (with existing stashes listed within a submenu for that option) would be hugely valuable and more viable for me. I can't spare the real estate for a sidebar and although handy for re-organizing, the Tab Stash "Tab" page doesn't work well for me when I'm trying to clean-up and stay organized as I go.
