Independent viewing mode on multiple (four) monitors eventually (after ~30 mins) results in Cloned video playback
Required information
In order to help us sort your issue, we ask that you provide the following information:
- [ ] Mac model: Mac Pro 2019
- [ ] macOS version: 12.3.1
- [ ] Monitor setup: Four 4K displays connected to a Radeon Pro W5700X, 2 connected via DisplayPort over Thunderbolt (via Thunderbolt to 2 x DisplayPort adapter), 2 connected via USB3 ports (i.e. DisplayPort over USB).
If appropriate, please enable Debug mode and Log to disk in Advanced tab and replicate your bug, then attach the AerialLog.txt file (You can access this file through the Advanced tab).
The issue occurs after the screensaver has been active a long time, i.e. more than, say, 30 mins (this is an estimate since I'm not always present when video playback on different monitors starts to become cloned). I shall endeavor to upload the log file in a future comment.
Description of issue / Feature request
I have Viewing Mode "Independent" selected in the Screen Saver settings. I've noticed that once the screensaver has been running more than approx. 30 mins, the Independent mode no longer occurs and all displays actually play the same video. Maybe it's an issue with the randomization algorithm, that it only plans out X number of videos in the play order? I'll notice it happening with, say 2 displays, first, then 3, and finally all 4 will be playing the same video.
I have all 'Nature' (scene) videos selected, and since there are 44 of them currently, I'm surprised they cannot be randomized so that no 2 displays show the same video.
Hi @raffetazarius
Sorry also for the very late reply, I was 100% sure I wrote you a long reply on this, but it looks like I didn't !
When in that condition, could you check to see if the video loops without a fade in/fade out ? I think I may have broken something while adding a feature request from someone. This may narrow things down a bit for me to check.
Again, super sorry I didn't answer earlier.
Hi Guillaume,
Thanks for the reply, and no expectations of reply turnaround time from me! :)
To answer your quesiton, I have not noticed that the videos stop cross-fading when "Independent" viewing mode fails.
Some other behaviour I noticed today - which may be related to the buggy randomization algorithm - is (1) sometimes the screensaver starts with the same video playing on all 4 displays, and (2) sometimes the screensaver starts with the same video playing on 2 of 4 displays.
Thanks!

(sorry I kinda forgot about that one, are you still experiencing the issue ? I'll try to investigate this tomorrow)
